3 Unique Elements of GVWP Programs:TEACHERS TEACHING TEACHERS:
GVWP recognizes that teachers are the key to educational reform, and that experienced teachers are the best teachers of other teachers. Every year, GVWP selects a small group of exemplary K-12 educators and prepares them to serve as consultants. GVWP’s network of “Teacher Consultants” work year-round, organizing long-term collaborations, fostering personal mentoring relationships, and encouraging other teachers to become active members of a professional learning community. UNIVERSITY-SCHOOL COLLABORATION: Great Valley Writing Project acts as a bridge to facilitate partnerships between CSU Stanislaus & local schools. Here’s how it works: First, GVWP Teacher Consultants identify and prioritize pressing needs in their schools. Then, through GVWP, they access resources and support from CSU Stanislaus, the National Writing Project network, and/or other educational partners, and they devise a plan to address those needs. The results are assessed, and the most effective plans are shared and replicated at other schools. LONG-TERM LEARNING: GVWP leaders build strong professional-development networks within their school sites and across school boundaries. These long-term relationships are an integral part of our “teachers teaching teachers” model. |
